Stephen Houmes, MD

Stephen Houmes, MD, is an emergency medicine physician in the Emergency Department at Madisonhealth’s Madison Memorial Hospital. Board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, he combines timely decision-making with evidence-based care to help patients during critical and often unexpected moments.

Dr. Houmes has a special interest in strengthening emergency care in rural and critical access hospitals. His clinical interests include advanced airway management, bedside ultrasound, quality improvement, and the treatment and prevention of sports-related injuries. He also maintains Advanced Trauma Life Support certification in his role as a trauma director.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Arizona. Dr. Houmes is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Outside of work, Dr. Houmes enjoys mountain biking, skiing, trail running, and spending time with his family.
