FAQ's

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy treatment helps people move better, feel stronger, and recover from injuries or pain. A physical therapist will guide you through exercises, show you better ways to move, and sometimes use hands-on techniques or equipment to speed up the healing process.

What conditions can physical therapy help with?

Whether you’re recovering from surgery, healing after an injury, or managing chronic pain, physical therapy can help. Therapists treat everything from sprains, whiplash, and strokes to joint replacement rehab, balance issues, and wound care. Physical therapy also supports neurological conditions, helps with developmental delays, and prepares patients for surgery or helps them bounce back after.

How long do appointments usually last?

Most appointments last 45-60 minutes, depending on your treatment plan.

How many weeks of treatment will I need?

Treatment depends on the individual and the level of physical therapy they need. Recovery can take as little as 2-4 weeks for minor injuries, while more serious cases may require several months.

Do I need a doctor referral to start?

Yes. Your primary care physician will refer you to Therapy Services for an evaluation. Let your doctor know that you would like to do physical therapy with Therapy Services at Madisonhealth.

What does an evaluation look like?

At your first physical therapy visit or evaluation, your therapist will discuss your pain or injury, review your medical history, and assess your movement, strength, and flexibility. Together, you’ll set goals and create a recovery plan. You might also begin light treatment during this visit.

Will physical therapy hurt?

Physical therapy should not necessarily hurt, but it can be uncomfortable. Soreness and discomfort are normal signs that your body is healing. Be sure to communicate with your therapist during your visit if something doesn’t feel right; they want to know.

Does insurance cover it?

Most insurances do cover physical therapy to some extent. If you are unsure if your insurance covers the payment, our office manager can call your insurance to check your benefits before you schedule an appointment.

Will I see the same therapist every time?

Yes! Therapy Services offers a consistent, personal level of care to every patient. Our therapists strive to meet with their patients at each appointment to keep them progressing.
