Coronavirus Treatment – On Tuesday, November 17, 2020, Madison Memorial will begin administering the just-released COVID-19 treatment bamlanivimab. Developed by Eli Lilly and Company, this investigational medicine is comparable to the treatment that President Trump received after he contracted coronavirus last month. On Monday, November 9, 2020, the FDA issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the use of bamlanivimab to treat mild to moderate COVID-19 in adult and pediatric patients 12 and older. The procedure involves a one-time intravenous infusion, and is intended for high-risk patients at the onset of SARS-CoV-2. Bamlanivimab was shown in clinical trials to reduce COVID-19 hospitalizations and ER visits in patients who presented a high probability of potential disease progression. The treatment is not authorized for patients who are already hospitalized or who require oxygen therapy due to COVID-19. Rather, its intended use is for high-risk patients in whom the disease has not yet...

HELEN KELLER TRIBUTE  27 June 1880 – 1 June 1968 by Christine Nelson Helen Keller lived a normal life until she experienced an illness at the age of 18 months that left her deaf and blind.  Early childhood included days of frustration, manifested by outbursts of screaming, kicking and scratching.  ( 6 ) Anne Sullivan began teaching Helen Keller at the age of six.   Miss Sullivan taught with patience and guidance.  A lifelong friendship developed with Helen Keller.   Of her savage pupil, Miss Sullivan wrote: “She has a fine head, and it is set on her shoulders just right.  Her face is hard to describe. It is intelligent, but it lacks mobility, or soul, or something. Her mouth is large and finely shaped.  You can see at a glance that she is blind.  One eye is larger than the other and protrudes noticeably.  She rarely smiles.  “It was days before...

We have an incredible staff, and we want to recognize all the accomplishments we’ve made together this past year. Due to so many of our staff working from home and social distancing during this time, we’ll be celebrating our healthcare system’s efforts in a virtual fashion, looking forward to a more festive part of our celebration at a later date. It includes everyone at our offsite support locations as well as those at Seasons Medical, Rexburg Medical Clinic, and Madison Surgery Center. It’s Jeans Day all week, starting Tuesday, going through Friday! Watch for our employee forum,  coming out later this week in the form of a video from our Admin Team. Watch also for upcoming information on a special, one-time gift for each employee, to...

A certified nurse is a nurse who has gone on to gain additional training, skills, and experience in a specific area of specialty, becoming certified in that area after having met the standard nursing qualifications. Nursing professionals who advance themselves toward the designation of certified nurse demonstrate a willingness to continue to learn and improve, contributing to the overall excellence of our organization here at Madison Memorial. Of all of the amazing nurses who work here, 26 are certified nurses, meaning they’ve acquired specialized skills and knowledge on top of their previous nursing training. In today’s volatile, uncertain climate of COVID-19 and worldwide pandemic concerns, it’s comforting to know that we have so many specialized, professional, dedicated staff members, right here in Rexburg, Idaho.
