As you are (hopefully) aware, our 2024 strategic plan includes seven goals, one of which is tied to Pride Initiative F.3.1. In that initiative (and its accompanying WIG), we aim to improve the variance against our staffing standard as a way to help us remain profitable and thereby contribute toward ensuring the organization’s future. A committee overseeing this important goal has met with every Mh department, working with managers and directors to determine how to meet the initiative. One department in particular has stood out thus far, in accomplishing this vital objective. MedSurg/ICU, under the direction of Angie Hathaway and Stephanie Hart, has made huge strides in trimming staffing hours to meet the standard. For the first time in a year, the department’s staffing levels were actually within their department’s standard. Last year, an external consulting firm was utilized to provide Mh leadership with benchmarking statistics, including direct comparisons of...

Madison’s Beloved Jack Law Retires After a Quarter Century of Service

Jack Law, Madison Memorial’s Biomedical Engineer shares some of his journey from the last quarter-century of service at Madison Memorial following his retirement party. Some of the most interesting things that we learned from Jack’s insight include caring for the patient, co-workers, and the guests always at Madison. This inspirational attitude has helped Jack to remain constant in his service caring for everyone as part of fulfilling the mission of the hospital. After a quarter-century of unselfish sacrifice and service, Jack feels that he is a better man because of his time at Madison Memorial. He has felt the sweetness that comes as we care for those in need. He readily includes others in his family and friend group. This gives him the dedication and service leading to excellence in care with every patient all the time.

Current Visitor Restrictions at Madison Memorial: There can only be one (1) designated visitor per patient, for the length of the patient’s stay (i.e., not one visitor at a time; only one visitor, who may come and go as needed, but is always the same person) No one under 18 may enter the building unless that person is a patient The Paragon Café continues to be closed to the general public Parents of pediatric patients may request permission to both (jointly or separately) visit their child September 16, 2021 The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has activated Crisis Standards of Care for all of Idaho today, as stated in their press release, dated September 16, 2021: “The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) has activated Crisis Standards of Care (CSC) in accordance with IDAPA 16.02.09 – Crisis Standards of Care For Healthcare Entities. HELEN KELLER TRIBUTE  27 June 1880 – 1 June 1968 by Christine Nelson Helen Keller lived a normal life until she experienced an illness at the age of 18 months that left her deaf and blind.  Early childhood included days of frustration, manifested by outbursts of screaming, kicking and scratching.  ( 6 ) Anne Sullivan began teaching Helen Keller at the age of six.   Miss Sullivan taught with patience and guidance.  A lifelong friendship developed with Helen Keller.   Of her savage pupil, Miss Sullivan wrote: “She has a fine head, and it is set on her shoulders just right.  Her face is hard to describe. It is intelligent, but it lacks mobility, or soul, or something. Her mouth is large and finely shaped.  You can see at a glance that she is blind.  One eye is larger than the other and protrudes noticeably.  She rarely smiles.  “It was days before...

Kevin McEwan, Chief Nursing Officer at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, today presented the prestigious Daisy Award, not just to one specific nurse, but to the entire 14-member team of Madison Memorial’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Daisy Award is an international token of recognition given to nurses who provide exceptional care. Anyone can nominate a nurse, and winners are carefully selected from among the nominees. In this case, Dr. Douglas Cottrell, the Physician NICU Director at Madison Memorial, nominated the entire NICU staff, based on their outstanding efforts during the particularly stressful months of the COVID-19 pandemic. The neonatal nurses at Madison Memorial, under the direction of NICU Clinical Manager Terri Weaver, are charged with caring for the smallest, most vulnerable patients in the hospital. Over the past year, more than 150 newborns (just over 10% of the hospital’s total births) received intensive care in the NICU. Not...

If you did not file an unemployment claim and yet you receive a letter in the mail or are otherwise notified of an unemployment claim being filed in your name, please notify your director, manager, or the Human Resources department immediately. We are working with our IHA representative to get these claims stopped, before some other person receives unemployment dollars using your name. Tips for Helping You Protect Against COVID-19 Related Fraud (from Experian.com) While fraudsters are trying their best to take advantage of this tough period, there are many ways you can protect yourself to help make sure you don’t fall victim to fraud during challenging times.
