Penny Retires Honest Hearts Produce Honest Actions depicts the work of our retiring NICU Nurse Penny who has worked at Madison for 33 years. She is the oldest of eight children and enjoys taking care of people. She also loves working with the babies.  One of her favorite memories is watching parents interact with their new children. Special feelings are shared, and it is fun to witness and be a part of these sweet memories. Her recommendations for the continuing healthcare team are the following: 1. Be a Team Player 2. Enjoy what you are doing 3. Enjoy interacting with people Penny claims that it has been fun, but there comes a time to move on to better things. She plans on fishing, camping, and spending a lot of time with her grandkids.  Remember Our America I appreciate those who have served our country, including my brother and two brothers-in-law who were in the Navy during World War II. I have a love for America that was ingrained in me from the time I was a young boy. My father was born in Australia and his family immigrated here as did my maternal grandparents who came from Sweden. My grandfather, Francis D. Horman walked across the plains of Wyoming to Utah with a company of Utah Pioneers. Can you believe that I knew my great-aunt, Annie Horman Green who was a little girl in that wagon train? They came here because America was the land of opportunity. They came because of the freedoms we enjoy and sometimes take for granted. I am truly grateful to live in the United States of America. May God continue to bless America. – Fred S. My heart...

Idaho Healthcare Aid in Peru   When we are sick in the United States and visit a hospital, we expect our healthcare system to help us recover. However, 96% of the world’s citizens don’t live in this country. Many of which have limited access to proficient healthcare. Madison would like to recognize and applaud five professionals from our area that dedicated their resources to help in Peru this spring with a team from Idaho. The hospital also donated $2,800 in supplies. Operations took place from Tuesday through Friday with a total of 13 surgeries. Furthermore, they worked alongside Peruvian healthcare providers. One day they went to a remote village and helped the local dentists and doctors. Procedures were performed for free. Some individuals came with extra digits that need detached. Others had fractures that needed to be fixed with bone grafts. Some of the Peruvian doctors were proficient at conducting surgeries. However, without proper equipment, it was difficult to perform well. Still, much of...
Madison Pulse Life Saved Close to Home A life saved touches us close to home. Cameron Brown’s wife received CPR while working at Kershaw Elementary in Sugar City. Her life was saved due to the quick response of 7 co-workers. The MMH Education Department recognized these individuals at an assembly held at the school on May 28th. Susan and Heather from Education expressed gratitude for the willingness to step up and quickly respond in a crisis situation. Personalized certificates were presented to each rescuer. Expanded Services MMH has expanded laboratory and radiology services to Teton Medical Group/Teton Urgent Care. We are excited for this new expansion. Employees who wish medical assistance at this facility will receive the same discounts on these services as they do here at MMH. March of Dimes – for Babies On Saturday, May 31st our NICU staff partnered with EIRMC to sponsor this fundraising event at Snake River Landing...

Nurse Arleigh March 7 Summer Russell-Elrod My name is Summer Elrod and I delivered a baby girl in your hospital on January 18th, 2014. I was just completing my journal of our birth experience and wanted to share it with you. We were so fortunate to have Nurse Arleigh at our greatest time of need. Here is a copy of my journal entry for you to share with her. She was the greatest blessing in our time of need and I am so thankful for her. My very first night with our new “Baby Girl Elrod” was somewhat of a blur. I was recovering from the events of the day, still in the recovery room, no husband, no family, just me, the nurse, and “Baby Girl Elrod” who we thought would be named Adler Gayle. With the hemorrhaging that took place I was left flat on my back, covered in...
Dave’s 25 Years of Progress Recently Dave Anderson celebrated 25 consecutive years as a pharmacist at Madison Memorial Hospital. Dave has almost worked here 28 years starting in the spring of ’86’ as a student. He left for a short time for schooling, and came back full time in February of ’89’. When he started, pharmacy was the youngest department in the hospital. Dave stayed because he believed the pharmacy department was always able to share a common vision of how things could work, and everyone has been motivated to make things work better. They have a high standard which has led to their success. Common goals, common objectives, and hard work keep them together in reaching lofty heights. Dave has also reached his own excellent personal health goals through cycling. He even has his own Rexburg Cycling Blog. When he began there were very few computers in our hospital and...
