Idaho Healthcare Aid in Peru   When we are sick in the United States and visit a hospital, we expect our healthcare system to help us recover. However, 96% of the world’s citizens don’t live in this country. Many of which have limited access to proficient healthcare. Madison would like to recognize and applaud five professionals from our area that dedicated their resources to help in Peru this spring with a team from Idaho. The hospital also donated $2,800 in supplies. Operations took place from Tuesday through Friday with a total of 13 surgeries. Furthermore, they worked alongside Peruvian healthcare providers. One day they went to a remote village and helped the local dentists and doctors. Procedures were performed for free. Some individuals came with extra digits that need detached. Others had fractures that needed to be fixed with bone grafts. Some of the Peruvian doctors were proficient at conducting surgeries. However, without proper equipment, it was difficult to perform well. Still, much of...
Madison Pulse Life Saved Close to Home A life saved touches us close to home. Cameron Brown’s wife received CPR while working at Kershaw Elementary in Sugar City. Her life was saved due to the quick response of 7 co-workers. The MMH Education Department recognized these individuals at an assembly held at the school on May 28th. Susan and Heather from Education expressed gratitude for the willingness to step up and quickly respond in a crisis situation. Personalized certificates were presented to each rescuer. Expanded Services MMH has expanded laboratory and radiology services to Teton Medical Group/Teton Urgent Care. We are excited for this new expansion. Employees who wish medical assistance at this facility will receive the same discounts on these services as they do here at MMH. March of Dimes – for Babies On Saturday, May 31st our NICU staff partnered with EIRMC to sponsor this fundraising event at Snake River Landing...
The Forgotten Memorial Day The noise of the hot wind adds to the drone of lawn mowing machines this Memorial Day. For many, today marks the beginning of summer vacations. A day to remember those who have given their lives defending our freedoms. Remember those who sacrificed for us. Many would have loved to live the lives we enjoy. Including awakening to a beautiful sunrise with an invigorated body, blossoming opportunities for work and play, and precious moments we share with family and friends. Nonetheless, their sacrifice denied them of these simple joys. Below are three ideas to help us commemorate this special holiday: 1. Become familiar with the rights these soldiers fought and died for- They sacrificed not only at home but across the globe. Why?  for a more perfect Union, to establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. The Constitutional Rights, and Amendments to ensure our freedoms are excellent...

Nurse Arleigh March 7 Summer Russell-Elrod My name is Summer Elrod and I delivered a baby girl in your hospital on January 18th, 2014. I was just completing my journal of our birth experience and wanted to share it with you. We were so fortunate to have Nurse Arleigh at our greatest time of need. Here is a copy of my journal entry for you to share with her. She was the greatest blessing in our time of need and I am so thankful for her. My very first night with our new “Baby Girl Elrod” was somewhat of a blur. I was recovering from the events of the day, still in the recovery room, no husband, no family, just me, the nurse, and “Baby Girl Elrod” who we thought would be named Adler Gayle. With the hemorrhaging that took place I was left flat on my back, covered in...
Dave’s 25 Years of Progress Recently Dave Anderson celebrated 25 consecutive years as a pharmacist at Madison Memorial Hospital. Dave has almost worked here 28 years starting in the spring of ’86’ as a student. He left for a short time for schooling, and came back full time in February of ’89’. When he started, pharmacy was the youngest department in the hospital. Dave stayed because he believed the pharmacy department was always able to share a common vision of how things could work, and everyone has been motivated to make things work better. They have a high standard which has led to their success. Common goals, common objectives, and hard work keep them together in reaching lofty heights. Dave has also reached his own excellent personal health goals through cycling. He even has his own Rexburg Cycling Blog. When he began there were very few computers in our hospital and...
Joan & Dean Retire After 27.5 good years of working at Madison Memorial Hospital Joan has done her fair share of cooking, but loves the chance she has to meet new people. She claims it has been a good job. Her favorite thing about her job is not doing dishes, but she enjoys making cookies and baking. The Paragon tries to cater to everyone’s needs, both physical and emotional. She says that she has been able to help folks in the community with a listening ear. There is an environment here where people can share their feelings with people who care and understand. They are not too busy to care for one another, both patient and colleague alike.  If anyone has a problem we will listen and understand. Joan would like to recognize a colleague and dear friend that recently passed away. They started working in The Paragon together about...
The Pulse – Raining Babies from Heaven – Madison Family Maternity Center made a record number of nine deliveries in a day this week. Shaunna sends a special thanks to each employee in the Family Maternity Center, and those in the related departments that helped make our services smooth. She was also glad that Madison Memorial Hospital has a second Mother Baby Unit, and a second Neonatal Intensive Care Unit fully equipped to take care of our community’s needs in instances like this. Employee Contributions – Did you know that in 2013 the hospital employees donated $17,573.22 to Madison Memorial Hospital Foundation?
